  • The Aroma of Veg.

We all know the distinct aroma of a Veg fueld Vehicle ( probably be our downfall if they ever get serious about regulating or collecting taxes) but I was discussing yesterday with a fellow Oilier how I have never come across it out on the road from anyone else.
He also confirmed that he had never smelt it out on the road either and commented as to how few people are using it this would seem to indicate.

As this is a distinct aroma and seems to travel pretty well, I am surprised I have never come across this smell where I could detect a fellow oiler was in the vicinity. Lots of times people I know have remarked how they knew I had been around by the smell of the mobile BBQ, but I have never been able to detect another oiler in the vicinity this way.
I live in Sydney so I would presume with the amount of cars we have here, There would be a good chance of crossing or following the path of some other veg user but this has NEVER happened to me.
Perhaps the concentration of veg users in Sydney is low and it happens more in other places.

I was wondering if anyone else comes across the aroma of another veg user out on the road or are there so few of us that this is a very rare
(never happens) occurrence for others as well?

Must admit I never took any notice until I started using bio and VO, there have been quite few times in Port Macquarie when I have noticed the aroma.

Our pug barely smells at all - I think the particulate filter traps all the aromatic stuff.

I think I have become immune to the smell. When I "first started using", I was hugely impressed and would grab a great big whiff as often as I could. I don't seem to notice it as much now, maybe my tolerance has increased and I now need a "bigger hit" to get as "high"?

I suggest that for the next Biodiesel picnic, we convoy through the M5 East Tunnel just to see if we notice the exhaust smell!

Noticed it one day on a bridge in town, looked at my mate who said at the same time, did you smell that? Speed up a bit and came across another person we bopth new runnign SVO.

Must admit I often try to see if I can find it whilst driving, sadly no. I wonder what people behind me think though, or is this being far too sensitive?

I have had my wife say to my kids go and see if your father is here, when another third party child is heard to say, mm I am hungry I smell sausages at weekend soccer. I had just pulled into a carpark 60 meters away and out of sight. That was the landcruiser a veretable greasy fish 'n' chip mobile.

Yes it is better than the petro stink.

On the other side put bio into a modern common rail motor with a catalytic converter and you cannot pick it unless you really look for it, no wonder ther dealer has never picked mine out!

I'd like to call it the smell of freedom and victory.

                I love it.

My cruiser has a more than 400000 klms on the clock and sometimes after sitting in the cold after running on WVO, takes a bit to starting, I'm about to get the injectors done. When she does start, out comes this huge cloud of grey smoke which doesn't smell the best. I've seen one another VO user on the road here in Tas, other than that I always get comments about which shop my oil came from. My triton was taken to Hobart on the back of a an RACT truck last week to get a new gearbox fitted, and I've had a number of comments on how well the ute runs on veggie oil when on the back of a truck. I'm pleased not many people use VO, as there's much more oil for my two vehicles, tractor, motorsailer and generators.

PS, don't tell anyone, and if they ask what the smell is, just say you farted.

                      Hi Geoffwin

I have had people stop me and ask me where is the smell of fish and chips comming from, i lead them to the back of my truck and let them have a smell, they are pleasantly suprized when i tell them im using waste veg oil.

                        Hi All,
Kids at the Child Care where my wife works call her HJ61, 'The Burger Ladies Truck'. I can always tell when she comes home even if I don't see her arrive.
Like others My 100 series TD has very little smell at all, you can hardly notice it.
                        Regards
