  • Does Melb Bio club exist?

G'day guys, Great forum. I'm having difficulty contacting the Melb Biodiesel club in regards to a training day. I feel I need some hands on experience to balance the scales of confidence before I start production. I'm also keen on pinching some ideas on plant set up. I missed the Fed Square display due to work(bummer), so any help would be most appreciated. I tried contacting Daniel from Bio club site through email and response was something like (Not authorised to display?). Cheers in advance for any info Kristian.

Yes the club exists, but just barely , thanks to those faithful , who put up their hands to do some administration and volunteer to make things happen rather than those selfish people who just turn up, expect a free show and tell facilitated for them, then offer no support back, financial or voluntarily, then bugger off by themselves, to burn down their own shed! because they didn't hang around long enough to pay attention to the OH&S!!!.

    .................................................. .................................................. ..
Parts of this message have been deleted as they are deemed too offensive
    .................................................. ..............................................

And yes parts of our website cannot be displayed to those who haven't made an effort to pay there dues or join financialy.
    Darren - creator of MBC.

PS if the wind up of the INC. happens there will be a big piss up at my house, then existing members of the club will fall under a sub group of the ATA, with financial donations from the club coffers going to ATA to discount MBC members in joining ATA. All organised by Daniel, and agreed to by other administrative members. Much to my disapointment.

Re: Does Melb Bio club exist?

        Hi,
Is it possible for someone from the Melbourne Bio Club to explain what Darren is talking about - I can't make head nor tails of it and I doubt that anyone else could either.

Is it possible to just get the details as requested please?

I don't mind if it comes from Darren or anyone else I am just a bit curious about what he is referring to.

Is Mebourne Bio being absorbed into the ATA? Presumably Darren and possibly some others aren't too happy about this. Was this because the group had fallen over or because it was just better to throw your lot in with the ATA?

As other people like myself are trying to set up local groups where they live a few tips of what to do and what not to do would be helpful for me.

        Thanks,
        Cameron

Re: Does Melb Bio club exist?

Hi Cam, Yep, MBC is in the throws of being absorbed by the ATA. This has been primarily facilitated by Daniel, and some other members who found themselves in administrative positions of a club of people where nobody wanted to take the basic responsibilities of administration according to the basic rules of an INC. as set down by Consumer affairs. SAD really considering the basic admin. rules should be a simple walk in the park for someone who has a Law deg. . But no, its all too hard.
Oh well, At least some people got something out of all the hard work.
The Thomas town plant "Fina Fuels", got to supply most of those in Melbourne who couldn't find BD, Paul Martin got himself in every media he could find including TV promoting himself and his own enterprise, Daniel set up "Conservo" as his own business, A fuel station dedicated to selling biofuels.. And I learned that maybe Socialism is dead, or at least the idea that a collective is stronger than an individual, isn't always true. Money Talks and Talk is cheap.
Oh Yeah, and my Merc. 300D, "Helga die frituese frau" as my German mechanic calls her, is doing fine after burning B100 for over four years and 200 thousand K's. And I've made my own reactor plant that i seldom use since i can just buy fina's product (B100) for $1.08 a litre. And the price of WVO around Melbourne has gone from being a free waste product you could just find outside restaurants three years ago, to being worth $800 a tonne or $160 a 44 G./200 lt drum.

                      G'day Darren mate,

I've been pretty ill and not getting around but I'm back on my feet again and want to get out in the Disco, tell me mate, where do you buy your BD for $1.08 a litre? Do you know if there's an outlet in Geelong for that $1.08 PL BD?
I've been thinking of using straight "New" vegie oil in my Disco as finding free used cooking oils here in Geelong is like finding chickens teeth! Bloody impossible mate! I now know why as you have supplied the reason why waste cooking oils is no-longer free to take away!

                      Cheers mate,

Re: Does Melb Bio club exist?

This letter went out on 20 March from Daniel,

                          "Dear Melbourne Biodiesel Club Members,

                          1. ATA: We would like to announce that after much consideration we have decided to wind up the Melbourne Biodiesel Club (MBC) and become a Biodiesel Subgroup of the Alternative Technology Association (ATA). There was insufficient interest among members to sustain the Club's operation as an incorporated association. The ATA is a long-established, non-profit community organisation and, among many other activities, publishes the nationally distributed "Renew" magazine. This move will allow Melbourne Biodiesel Club membe! rs to still enjoy the benefits of meeting other renewable fuel enthusiasts and learning about biodiesel but with a much-reduced, although not zero, administration load.MBC's remaining funds have been donated to the ATA.

The ATA will offer a $20 discount on their usual membership of $65 to former MBC members. Any remaining funds will be used for the purposes of the Biodiesel subgroup that will be formed within the ATA.

                          2. Next Meeting will be a party/MBC Wind Up/Welcome to ATA on Saturday 19th April. Between 1-4pm you are welcome to come to (deleted for privacy to paid members(darrens adress))

Members can pick up ATA application forms to complete and return by post at the event. We will give some biodiesel demonstrations, and have a fun barbi.

                          "

This is a letter to me from Daniel Epstein, after i asked where's the money from our coffers.--
                          "Darren,

the club no longer exists, Dave and I worked very hard
with an accountant to do it properly, and its done,
part of the deal was we donated the last of the MBC
funds to the ATA, who are going to reimburse us for
anything we spend at the barbi, we donated about $800
to them after the cost of the accountant.

Paul is getting the food and booze, can you just make
sure its all cooked, and be around for the 3 hours of
                          the event.
should be fun, see you then.

                          cheers D."

The club had a bank account with over $2,500.00 and no known reasons for any other expenditure.
