A question, Gents. I've been making bio from WVO, using KOH for a couple of years now. The mix usually titrates between 5.8 and 6.1, and I use the 80/20 method. I usually make between 200 and 260L, water-washing with about 5L of cool water for an instant before stopping the pump. Add and drain several 10L buckets of water thereafter, then airwash, finishing up with a spray-dry at about 40-50°C before storing the fuel. For the last few times, the glycerol drops out of the reactor at about 30°C, but in the bucket, it turns to gloop - about the consistency of stiffish mortar. Even if I mix it 1:1 with water, it's like that, whether or not I mix in 5kg of cement to the methoxide and settle it out. If left in the bucket, it resembles sloppy soap, with rain making it into a nice hand wash. But it's almost impossible to get rid of. Am I missing something, or doing something wrong?
