  • Toyota Hilux with D4D engine - suitable for Biodiuesel?

I have an enquiry from a prospective WARFA member asking if he can run his Hilux on renewable fuels.
I am sure it will not work reliably on veggie oil / blends, but what about biodiesel?

Short answer NO! long answer yes maybe.. me my wife and a couple of friends have run common rail Peugeots on B100 for about 6 years now and have had no issues at all related to fuel, however, the fuel we make is top-notch, and we do all our own repairs and servicing. Your Hilux owner should be aware that the bio needs to be made properly, your local service centre will blame the bio for any future problems and the D4D engine has a few issues. The EGR will give problems, bio will likely get the blame for it so get it deleted before you start. Please read the link as injectors and turbos are expensive, Bio will get the blame even though they are known problems with that engine.

Good news, the Hilux is the previous diesel model, not the D4-D version,
He is good to go on veggie or veggie blends.

Hi there. I run my D4D 2008 common rail on 25% bd. Been 6 months and no noticeable issues. Actually on the hunt for the earlier series 5 (pre 2000) hilux with mechanical pump but secondhand cars are crazy expensive here in NSW at the moment!

I have just bought a 2004 Prado 120 Turbodiesel. I believe that these motors have strong similarities.
I will be posting my journey in converting this car to run on straight veggie oil or a blend of ULP and Veggie.
