  • Advice on planned SVO two-tank system

    Any feedback on my plan for my second conversion (schematic attached) will be greatly appreciated.
    The first two-tank conversion I did was 16 years ago, using a kit. For this one, I'm using the same model of car; a 1995 Hilux Surf, but all the parts I've sourced myself, and from reading around came up with a new configuration.
    If anyone can see any obvious improvements to be made please let me know. For example, is the pump OK towards the end of system? The idea is that it only receives hot filtered oil to reduce the stress on the pump. And the inline heater and switch will be as close to the engine as possible to optimise the heating of the oil getting to the engine.
    Thanks in advance.

    Why are you heating the oil? Does it have a lot of high melting point oils in it?
    I use long term settled used cooking oils (no fats in my oil) and just add ~20% petrol / diesel mix to it.
    Starts fine hot or cold and runs well, no other issues in both my vehicles.

    2004 Prado Turbodiesel.(1HZ-TE)

    My vehicles have no fuel system modifications and start and stop on cooking oil.
    I only use liquid oils, avoiding any solidifying oils.
    I have just posted a "power point" document later, detailing the creation of a settling system for veggie oil fuels.
    I have used it for 10 years now 9with steel drums) and recently upgraded to poly 200L chemical drums. This document shows the assembly of the connections and my filtering system.

      Hi,

      How did you go?

      If you havene't intalled yet I'd recommend trying the system without the second pump, the IP have so much suction they may not even need it.

      I've got a 2 tank system, SVO -> filter -> Heat exchanger - > 3 way valve -> IP -> engine.

      I did initially have a pump but comparing the vacuum gauge pressuers I actually had better flow without the pump!

        Keep your fuel lines large diameter (10mm or 3/8") that is bIgger than the diesel fuel lines (which are probably 8mm or smaller) Makes a huge difference when loading your IP lift pump.
