Re: My conversion of 2004 Ford Courier 2.5TD

I have noticed that the engine seems to idle a bit rough when on wvo. I do not notice any problems when driving along. The engine has no trouble revving to 3500rpm if required. I have read that others take rough idling as a sign to change their filter, however given that mine has done less than 200km, I hardly think this is the problem.

On another note, I'm currently working on sourcing a poly 205L drum for my primary fuel tank. Hopefully won't be long before I get one for extended range.

I also learnt a lesson with leaving my filtered oil in the open. Cockroaches and similar bugs are attracted to the stuff and a few have so far died of pleasure in my open top buckets

I still haven't had any luck sourcing a 205L poly drum for my fuel tank. I have decided that for now I will stick with the (very agricultural looking) 20L drum setup, but instead of having the return go into the fuel tank, i will divert it to another old plastic diesel jerrycan I have. Annoying I realise, having to decant the retun oil into the main tank, but it has to be better than the way I've got it setup at the moment.

Aside from that, everything is still running well. I noticed the other day that the ute did not idle rough on veg and do not understand what has changed since I was having that problem. We'll see how that goes anyway.

Last Wednesday, I went over to Flametree (Airlie Beach) to meet up with Lozzer and a few of his mates, which my wife and I enjoyed immensely. It was great to meet one of the forum members and chat about a variety of things.

hey Rusty, if you have a truck wrecker up your way a fuel tank from a truck might be a good option. when i was using a 20l drum for veg i ran the veg return to it and the diesel return to the original tank. have since put another hilux tank under the other side which is going well as i have wired the fuel guage sender and the changeover solenoid through a double pole relay so it gives me the fuel reading from the tank in use. hope it all keeps going well

Why can't I see the pictures you are all posting on here? Have just joined this site as I am about to convert a courier myself. i did an old nissan datsun in NZ before moving over here. Just a question, why don't you use the original fuel tank for the WVO and add an auxilary tank for startup diesel?

                Hi All

Aware this is a pretty old thread, I've just picked up an old 2004 ford courier 2.5TD and am about to embark on my first veg oil conversion. (I've made biodiesel in the past but never done a conversion)

If anyone from this thread has any wise advice now years down the track I'm very open to ideas.

I've got a heat exchanger in the mail, also already have a huge tank I picked up cheap. still haven't bought filters, hoses, solenoids (pump if needed) etc.

Be happy to hear from anyone, I;m working on it in the Bega valley for the winter where I'm working then back down to near Deans Marsh VIC (home)
