Can you confirm the impeller type - brass, bronze, stainless etc ?

Can you confirm that this is suitable for WVO

Any members got one of these ?

Re: 12 Volt Biodiesel Transfer Pump on Sale

      Hi Craig,

I bought one of these some years back. It had a 12/24v motor on it.

It would pump WVO, but would make the motor work very hard. I would not recommend it at all for this.

I imagine it would be okay for BioD or other light oils, but not straight WVO.

The impeller is a vane setup, with hard plastic removeable flat pieces of material inset into a centre hub with slots in it. The vanes sit in the slots on the central hub.

The seal on the pump leaked and gummed up the bearing in the motor. I have replaced that bearing, but the motor remains pretty dysfunctional.

The kit I bought came with a bowser set up, complete with flow meter and trigger squeeze handle. The flow meter is not accurate on WVO, about 20% out. The bowser squeeze handle for inserting into the vehicle looks cool.

My suggestion is not to buy it for WVO use. A gear pump is available for cheaper and has a much better reputation for being suitable for WVO.

thanks Tim, good pickup on that.

I might get one of those for my transfers from my large in car tank when going on long trips

Re: 12 Volt Biodiesel Transfer Pump on Sale

Yep i process the Vegoil as normal, mine goes through a settling process for a couple of weeks, then an upflow settle through a 44 gallon drum, 5 micron, then 1 micron cold filtered, Then dried.

When i am ready to make a batch for my startup tank, i mix in the appropriate amounts of Kero/Diesel/ULP and WVO - this is dependant on the weather at the time. I usually make about a 200 litre batch which lasts in my startup tank for about 2 months.

I use straight WVO in my main tank

This gear pump is the same as the one I took on my trip to Cape York. I paid a bit more for it but it has paid for itself several times over so I'm happy.

Could a centrifuge do the trick faster than settling ? I'm trying to work out a way to stay away from Methoxide. but with a late model Common rail , I'm not sure what I really should do and I don't like using lots of water to wash. Not because I'm using water but I then need to get rid of it.

You use the Jackaroo. I was considering trading the Suzi for a Jack but there was too many bad vibes on the net. Have you had any problems running the two tank setup ?

                    Michael,

yes supposedly centrifuges work well, i am happy with my setup and it works pretty much unattended - so no great input from me

                    regards
