Hi I'm looking to buy a ute to run bio diesel on. My friend who makes it and also makes units to produce it says I need to get a vehicle that doesn't have a common rail design for the engine. I'm looking at a 2006 Ford Courier and trying to figure out if it's common rail or not. Does anyone happen to know the history of the development of this vehicle?

Does the engine have glow plugs?
If yes, then it is most likely an indirect Injection engine and not CRD
High quality biodiesel should be OK in a CRD engine as it is the polymerisation of the triglyceride molecules that causes injector issues (causing the fine holes in the injectors to block with polymerised oil and resulting in a spray of oil onto the cylinder walls = excessive bore wear. In biodiesel, the trigyceride molecules are broken into Methyl esters and glycerol. There should be no triglycerides in quality biodiesel.

I have done some research for you.
From what I have been able to find, the Courier had the 2.5L indirect injection diesel engine until it was replaced by the Ford Ranger in 2006/7 when Ford went to a Common Rail engine.
