yes soft enough to pump its thick but still flowing, never been heated sice collecting just sedemented.

i purchased some polack valves from America for $45 each via ebay you can get 3 way mechical (L type not T type)) valves for around $60 2 x normal Mechanical valves are more reliable than a 3way and...

I return my line to the IP straight away so veg cannot get to any tank. (you can also have a return tank on the veg tank only) if i run out or get air in the line i purge into a bottle or similar....

go to jaycar or similar get a 12 v light and a 70oC normally open hear sensor button thingy it should close when it reaches operating temperature and activate the light on the dash unless you need...

seems you may have connected the heat exchanger on one side of the heater unit. so your heat controls the flow It is best to pickup one hose coming off the engine and then reconnect to another hose...

I recommend getting waste vegetable oil because its free.
if your going to use water as a heat exchange in your tank you can come out on the same side (top) it may be a little less complicated ...
