  1. Re: Formation of soap during biodiesel manufacture

    Mark,
Are you saying that Methanol and KOH when mixed together make Potassium methoxide.
How much Potassium methoxide is created when you add KOH to Methanol?
What is the Stoichiometric ratio of...

    Re: Omar Valve Failure

Long term testing of these solenoid valves has shown that they suffer from overheating of the coil, leaving them fail in the de-energised state.
To overcome this, I have used a 21W indicator lamp...
  3. Re: Mazda Bravo / Ford Courier 2.5 Turbodiesel on WVO Blends

I believe that the BT50 has a Common Rail Diesel engine. As such it does not have an injector pump.
The last of the mechanically injected diesels in the Mazda and Ford was in 2006.
  4. Re: Mazda Bravo / Ford Courier 2.5 Turbodiesel on WVO Blends

    Mark,
Why would I need to remove the cat? The Musso has a Cat and it had no issues with veggie oil blends.
Has anyone else needed to remove a Catalytic converter?

    Johnnojack,

Now is the time to decide whether it is worth your while continuing with the re-processing of this batch. If you lose the methanol then you need to add it back to the heated failed...

    Re: Fat fail

Was this the reprocessed 2 L sample?
If so, repeat with some unprocessed material from that batch as a reference.
Reprocess another 2 L with 3.5 g NaOH in methanol.
    Then, tomorrow, do the water...

    Johnnojack,
    The advice Tilly gave

is spot on. Just change the KOH to CaOH and follow his process until you get a good separation. then scale up the proportions needed and then reprocess the...
  9. Re: Mazda Bravo / Ford Courier 2.5 Turbodiesel Tips n Tricks

I feel that the fuel starvation issue may be related to the small bore fuel lines on the Courier. I will investigate going to 10 mm ID pipe for the fuel supply line.
    It will give significantly less...
  10. Re: Mazda Bravo / Ford Courier 2.5 Turbodiesel Tips n Tricks

$200. It is from a 2004 model so has extra electronics bolted to it. I can easily remove them and make it work in my Courier.
I am persisting with the original one to see how I go with blends. I...
  11. Re: Mazda Bravo / Ford Courier 2.5 Turbodiesel Tips n Tricks

I have had a few instances of reduced power from the engine. In each case, I have replaced the fuel prefilter and the performance has been restored.
I have 3 prefilters and have one in the cleaning...
  12. Re: Mazda Bravo / Ford Courier 2.5 Turbodiesel Tips n Tricks

That is a good question. I will think about dropping the tank sometime in the future to check the interior of the tank and, if needed, I will clean it out.
    Thanks for the suggestion.
  13. Re: Mazda Bravo / Ford Courier 2.5 Turbodiesel Tips n Tricks

I did that. What a difference. My blend was not mixed before adding to the tank. as a result undiluted veggie oil was being drawn into the IP and didn't flow fast enough to give full power from the...
  14. Re: Mazda Bravo / Ford Courier 2.5 Turbodiesel Tips n Tricks

Well, the car is drive-able but I cannot get full power for more than a few seconds, then it is rather sluggish.
We live on a highway which has a long moderate slope when coming to our place. The...
  15. Re: Mazda Bravo / Ford Courier 2.5 Turbodiesel Tips n Tricks

I have replaced the fuel filter but the fuel starvation issue continues.
I then removed the prefilter and the pusher pump. no improvement.

I looked for the gauze filter in the inlet banjo but all...
  16. Re: Mazda Bravo / Ford Courier 2.5 Turbodiesel Tips n Tricks

  18. Re: looking at converting my 2002 Landcruiser with 1HZ engine to WVO

Paul. What you have is fine for as long as you like to have it that way.
Do you have a second fuel filter for the veggie oil? If not the main fuel filter can clog up enough that the diesel will not...

    Re: 5W50 or 10w50 or 20W50

You could simply have a solenoid which is connected to the Ignition switch (for a petrol engine) or to the starter motor for a diesel. With a diesel a NRV in parallel with the solenoid would allow...

    Re: 5W50 or 10w50 or 20W50

I use these as oil transfer pumps. I have found them reliable and move plenty of oil. They can deliver a high pressure in low flow applications.
As it will run for about a minute at cold starts,...

    Re: 5W50 or 10w50 or 20W50

I have not researched this application, but there are 12V gear pumps which I use to shift WVO around. I feel that they would work well as they can deliver at pressure, can move a lot of oil and they...
