Re: Does red dirt cause rust?

I though that the red colour is due to iron oxide (ie. rust). Maybe when it's exposed to moisture, it promotes rusting of iron/steel on vehicles.

  5. Re: looking at converting my 2002 Landcruiser with 1HZ engine to WVO

That's what I would do. The extra filter for the WVO / WVO blend should be plumbed in parallel (separate) to the stock filter.
  6. Re: looking at converting my 2002 Landcruiser with 1HZ engine to WVO

    Hi Tony

The 1HZ is actually INdirect injection, as written:

"but for Paul's Toyota 1HZ, which is indirect injection but uses a rotary IP, I don't think that's advisable."

    I'd still steer...
  7. Re: looking at converting my 2002 Landcruiser with 1HZ engine to WVO

The Toyota 1HD-T engine is direct injection. You didn't purge/flush with diesel or well-made biodiesel on shutdown. The folly of that practice is well established.
  8. Re: looking at converting my 2002 Landcruiser with 1HZ engine to WVO

That's fine for a Musso or older Mercedes which use an inline pump (and are indirect injection), but for Paul's Toyota 1HZ, which is indirect injection but uses a rotary IP, I don't think that's...
  9. Re: looking at converting my 2002 Landcruiser with 1HZ engine to WVO

The 1HZ engine uses a rotary injection pump.

Blending is fine, but it's still a 2 tank conversion for you (use one of the tanks for diesel or bio diesel for purging/flushing on shutdown), unless...

    Re: Blending supplies.

    I agree with Tony.

The Merc with the Bosch inline pump with the mechanical lift pump hanging off the side of it is very forgiving, unlike the Jackaroo with the rotary / VE pump.

    I wouldn't be...

Re: Blending Diesel with Filtered Vegetable Oil?

Yes, effectively the timing is altered.

I used to have a Mercedes 300D. When I bought it, it was noisy as anything. Previous owner had advanced the timing to compensate for a cylinder being down...

  21. Re: A couple of questions WVO mid north coast nsw

Tony, I believe by lift pump, he means just that - the lift pump (on the side of the injection pump)... not the actual IP (Injection Pump).

10,000 km does sound very severe.
