  1. Re: The chemistry of the glycerol (and soap) phase

    Mark,
I did a quick Google and found (amongst others) http://www.arpnjournals.org/jeas/research_papers/rp_2016/jeas_0816_4863.pdf
This gives the Molar ratios and the reaction coefficients for...
  2. Re: The chemistry of the glycerol (and soap) phase

    [quote]Here is the equation: KOH + MeOH <-> MeOK + H2O[/]quote
As you have stated previously, Le Chateleir's principle applies, but you do not give the proportions at STP for this reaction.

  3. Re: looking at converting my 2002 Landcruiser with 1HZ engine to WVO

Paul, Good to hear. The veggie oil will kill off any "diesel Bug" in the fuel tank and the sloshing action will break up any clumps and allow the residues to pass thru the fuel lines to the fuel...
  4. Re: Confusing problem with my biodiesel

    Tilly,
In the interest of open communications, can you please provide references (or better still, a URL of where it is located) for the graph you mentioned in the above post?

    Thank you
    Tony

Re: Anyone run an X5 on bio?

Is this a vehicle with a diesel powered fuel heater? What purpose does the fuel heater serve in this application? Why would it need heating? Is this for using solid veggie oil?
    I have never heard of...

  7. Re: Mazda Bravo / Ford Courier 2.5 Turbodiesel Tips n Tricks

OK, The second hand pump (2004) was not suited to the 2000 Courier because of the added electronics. I ended up getting an exchange one fo $1200 and installed it. I also drained the fuel tank and got...

Re: Musso Fuel Gauge stuck at 3/4 tank

Tilly, My Musso fuel gauge reads full now when I turn the ignition on, but only because I had a near full tank when the head / gasket went.
I may pump the tank out, I may flush the IP with diesel in...
  9. Re: Formation of soap during biodiesel manufacture

    Mark,
Are you saying that Methanol and KOH when mixed together make Potassium methoxide.
How much Potassium methoxide is created when you add KOH to Methanol?
What is the Stoichiometric ratio of...

    Re: Omar Valve Failure

Long term testing of these solenoid valves has shown that they suffer from overheating of the coil, leaving them fail in the de-energised state.
To overcome this, I have used a 21W indicator lamp...
  11. Re: Mazda Bravo / Ford Courier 2.5 Turbodiesel on WVO Blends

I believe that the BT50 has a Common Rail Diesel engine. As such it does not have an injector pump.
The last of the mechanically injected diesels in the Mazda and Ford was in 2006.
  12. Re: Mazda Bravo / Ford Courier 2.5 Turbodiesel on WVO Blends

    Mark,
Why would I need to remove the cat? The Musso has a Cat and it had no issues with veggie oil blends.
Has anyone else needed to remove a Catalytic converter?

    Re: Fat fail

    Johnnojack,

Now is the time to decide whether it is worth your while continuing with the re-processing of this batch. If you lose the methanol then you need to add it back to the heated failed...

    Re: Fat fail

Was this the reprocessed 2 L sample?
If so, repeat with some unprocessed material from that batch as a reference.
Reprocess another 2 L with 3.5 g NaOH in methanol.
    Then, tomorrow, do the water...

    Johnnojack,
    The advice Tilly gave

is spot on. Just change the KOH to CaOH and follow his process until you get a good separation. then scale up the proportions needed and then reprocess the...
  17. Re: Mazda Bravo / Ford Courier 2.5 Turbodiesel Tips n Tricks

I feel that the fuel starvation issue may be related to the small bore fuel lines on the Courier. I will investigate going to 10 mm ID pipe for the fuel supply line.
    It will give significantly less...
  18. Re: Mazda Bravo / Ford Courier 2.5 Turbodiesel Tips n Tricks

$200. It is from a 2004 model so has extra electronics bolted to it. I can easily remove them and make it work in my Courier.
I am persisting with the original one to see how I go with blends. I...
  19. Re: Mazda Bravo / Ford Courier 2.5 Turbodiesel Tips n Tricks

I have had a few instances of reduced power from the engine. In each case, I have replaced the fuel prefilter and the performance has been restored.
I have 3 prefilters and have one in the cleaning...
  20. Re: Mazda Bravo / Ford Courier 2.5 Turbodiesel Tips n Tricks

That is a good question. I will think about dropping the tank sometime in the future to check the interior of the tank and, if needed, I will clean it out.
    Thanks for the suggestion.
  21. Re: Mazda Bravo / Ford Courier 2.5 Turbodiesel Tips n Tricks

I did that. What a difference. My blend was not mixed before adding to the tank. as a result undiluted veggie oil was being drawn into the IP and didn't flow fast enough to give full power from the...
