Re: Foolproof Room Temperature (FRT) Biodiesel

    Method update:

One aspect of this method that I didn't like was the long clarification time - about a month between the generation of the raw material and its use in my car.

    I'd always figured...
  3. Re: The chemistry of the glycerol (and soap) phase

Quite correct but the whole point of my method is that all water from all sources is removed. So whatever water is present in the KOH is removed by the drying agent. I'll put up some calculations...
  4. Re: The chemistry of the glycerol (and soap) phase

Yes, quite correct. I'll talk you through the processes involved just as soon as I work out how to post the images on my desktop onto this site
  5. Re: The chemistry of the glycerol (and soap) phase

Yes - my apologies - the thumbnails aren't much use and despite my best efforts I just cannot work out how to post the images on my desktop onto this site. The method works for other images, but not...

    Re: Posting an Image

    Hi Rob

Much as I try I still can't post images

I used the method you described for a random image online, and it worked - but when I attempt to post the image that I want from an imgur account...
  7. Re: The chemistry of the glycerol (and soap) phase

    Hi Tony,

At last I've figured out how to post figures. The URL bit still isn't working that I can see, but the thumbnails will do for now.

Right let's go through this step by step.

    Firstly,...

Re: Foolproof Room Temperature (FRT) Biodiesel

No. This method was developed for use with liquid oil only.

Obviously if you are using lard you will have to melt it first. The point is that with this method, unlike with the Dr Pepper method,...

    Re: Posting an Image

Well yes, that'd be good, but I can't get the photo hosting approach to work either. I click on the Insert Image icon abd it gives me the option of uploading an image from my computer or inserting a...

    Re: Posting an Image

I've now set up a photo hosting account at imjur but it won't let me post on this site. I copy and paste the URL but it keeps saying Invalid File.
  13. Re: The chemistry of the glycerol (and soap) phase

Tony I've just set up a photohosting account at imjur. But no matter what I do it won't let me post an image.

I post the images to the account and then cut and paste the URL but it keeps saying...

Re: Foolproof Room Temperature (FRT) Biodiesel

Fair enough. I stand corrected. The Dr Pepper method has one heating step.

Mine has none. Heating is never required at any stage

  15. Re: The chemistry of the glycerol (and soap) phase

Please note: my method is the only room temperature method on the web.

It does not require heating at any stage.

Note that you can watch videos of the process on my website here. There is an...

    Posting an Image

Had to start a new thread as the other one is closed.

Yes Tony - I've seen the posting about the Word Document, but it's not really a whole lot of use if it doesn't appear in the actual post.
    ...
  17. Re: The chemistry of the glycerol (and soap) phase

I really don't understand why this is so difficult to understand. You've just told me with the Dr Pepper the oil has to be "heated" and then cooled to 55 degrees. I know it does. That's my point. My...
  18. Re: The chemistry of the glycerol (and soap) phase

    Please note:

This is the only room temperature method on the web.

The Dr Pepper method has two heating steps:

    1. Heating of WVO to "dry" it
    2. Heating the biodiesel mixture to facilitate...

Re: Foolproof Room Temperature (FRT) Biodiesel

Note to anyone reading this thread:

    1. The Dr Pepper method has two heating steps:

    > the "drying" process for the WVO
    > the heating step for the transesterification

    This method...
  20. Re: The chemistry of the glycerol (and soap) phase

Can anyone tell me how to insert jpg or png figures into a post please? I can't continue this discussion without using some of the figures from the paper that Tony sent me, but every time I try to...

Re: Confusing problem with my biodiesel

The water was free phase. That is, I actually tipped free phase water in that was sitting in the bottom of the drums. That was the "getting lazy" bit.

I have never dried my oil. In fact I have...
  22. Re: The chemistry of the glycerol (and soap) phase

The paper that Tony sent me contains some very useful data. I'll give a fuller explanation, now that I have some real numbers, as soon as I can figure out how to cut and paste figures from the paper....
  23. Re: The chemistry of the glycerol (and soap) phase

Right, let's have a look at this. I'm not sure where you got those numbers from, but we can work through this one step at a time.

As it happens it proves everything I've been saying, but it's...
  24. Re: The chemistry of the glycerol (and soap) phase

Thanks for the paper - I'll have a look at it when I get a chance

  25. Re: The chemistry of the glycerol (and soap) phase

I give up. I can see now that it was a mistake to attempt to engage with you at all. As has been the case in the past, as you have no formal qualifications in chemistry, and have deluded yourself...
