    Re: Fuel filter performance

Ahh! I recognise that filter. Glad it's working for you Ethan.

    Re: Fat fail

Sorry I am talking about the fat fail mixture I have, not a new batch of fat. I am attempting to restart the stalled reaction I had by adding the missing quantity of catylist, not coming up with...

    Re: Fat fail

Finally found some time to have another go at this. Mixed 40 grams of NaOH with 250ml of methanol (would not dissolve in 150ml) and added it to 10litres of 'fat' which I'd warmed up with a couple of...

Re: Foolproof Room Temperature (FRT) Biodiesel

Ok so I read your blog on your method. So let's do a little review of it.
    1. Mix up KOH and methanol in open top drums with a shovel! What the! Wouldn't a chemist know how toxic that stuff is to...

Re: Foolproof Room Temperature (FRT) Biodiesel

True Tilly, titration is just so easy, why wouldn't you do it? I use tumeric, a solution of NaOH and methylated spirits.
I am about a 10th of the way through a container of NaOH solution I mixed...

Does your non heating method work when making fat into biodiesel? If so please share.

    Re: Fat fail

Mark you need to go back and read what I said the problem was in my first post. I don't have an emulsion I don't have any soap I have 90 litres of solid partly converted fat with the consistency of...
  8. Re: Mazda Bravo / Ford Courier 2.5 Turbodiesel on WVO Blends

No wonder the build quality of Mussos is so unpredictable, the probably left a few bits behind in each country as they moved.

    Re: Fat fail

Tilly the trouble is it isn't 'glop' like in consistency, it is about the consistency of margarine. So mixing anything with it is next to impossible without heating it up.

    Re: Fat fail

Tony yes this was the reprocessed sample. It finally settled to about 70% bio 20% glyc and 10% soap. So it looks like it should convert with a bit less catylist. Although with the high titration...

    Re: Fat fail

Tried the soap test, went a bit lumpy so popped the jar in the solar heater and it settled into 4 layers, from bottom, brown water, black byproduct, browny white layer, soap? Top layer of biodiesel....

    Re: Fat fail

Thanks Tilly I didn't know that was the reason people use KOH . When I started making bio about 12 years ago I went to Scotcher fuels to get some methanol etc and they only had NaOH so I got that....

    Re: Fat fail

Ok I mixed 10grams of NaOH with about 50ml of methanol warmed up 2 litres of 'fat' and mixed with paint mixer for 5 minutes. Put lid back on container and left for 4 hrs. Now it is sloppy mix but not...
  14. Re: Mazda Bravo / Ford Courier 2.5 Turbodiesel Tips n Tricks

That should make a difference, it probably has 8mm fuel line now which has an ID of about 6mm. 10mm iD is about 3x the volume. I reckon you are pushing the envelope a little Tony running WVO through...

    Re: Fat fail

Oops yes I meant NaOH. The mixture is very thick even in 30 deg heat, it's like thickened cream, the good stuff not cheap brand. I have had it in open drums, had to ladle it out as the reactor is an...

    Re: Fat fail

Thanks Tilly, I use CaOH not KOH I used 8 grams per litre, should have been 11.5 doh! Haven't made bio for over a year and was a bit rushed at the time and it was stinking hot. The mix went the usual...

    Fat fail

I had an excess of fat which has built up over a couple of years and decided to make bio with it. Much warming in solar cooker, settling and dispensing I had a fairly clean dry batch which was well...

    Re: 5W50 or 10w50 or 20W50

You don't need an inlet from the sump. Oil gets pumped into the accumulator when the engines running and goes out the same pipe when the engine pump loses pressure. You can have a valve to operate as...

    Re: 5W50 or 10w50 or 20W50

Yep that's possible, so use a NRV. An accumulator could still be the go. The way I imagined one would be to have a catch which held the piston in the fully loaded position, that is full of oil under...

    Re: 5W50 or 10w50 or 20W50

What you need Dagwill is an oil accumulator. I seriously looked at fitting one of these many years ago when I first bought my diesel 4WD but it was a fair bit of engineering to undertake so...
  22. Re: looking at converting my 2002 Landcruiser with 1HZ engine to WVO

    Re: Change in WVO type

I take what I can get, that is Soy, Canola, and Cottonseed. Soy tends to dry more than the other 2, cottonseed does get thick in cold weather. All mixed together it tends to cancel out these...

    Re: Shitbox Rally October 2019

As you will be doing a lot of dirt roads I'd be cautious about excessive weight behind the back wheels. I'd go for 2 cubies in the back seat foot wells and 2 maybe 3 in the front of the boot. That...
