    dissolve veg oil gum

    hi everyone,,
    just wondering what would be the best way to remove old build up of vegie gum inside a manual drum pump..
    i tried diesel but it wont dissolve the gum.
    the pump is dismantled for cleaning..
    any ideas will be appreciated..

    Caustic sofa (NaOH) will do it. Wear goggles and rubber gloves, nasty stuff.

    Scraping will remove most of it. Caustic will remove the rest.
    Take great care when using Caustic Soda, it can cause severe chemical burns. For small splashes on skin rinse the affected area ASAP and then add used cooking oil to give any remaining caustic something to work on instead of your flesh.
