    Who can rebuild 1HZ pumps?

The IP in my HZJ80 is buggered. The timing piston is scored and it has started to sieze. I'm not sure why this happened - I had a couple of batches that, on reflection, may have had some FFAs in them. Or maybe its time was up anyway.

In any case, I need to get it rebuilt. The guys at Diesel Australia in Qld quoted me $800-1500 (depending on what needed to be done), but that's a little bit far - there must be somewhere closer (in the Sydney/south coast area). Since I want it built with Viton seals I want to take it somewhere that has experience with that kind of thing. Any ideas?

A diesel mechanic in Wollongong was recommended to me by Berrima Diesel. His name is Jeff Lord on 4283 7199. I cannot personally vouch for this guy as I have not had any work done yet, just passing on the recommendation.

Berrima and Cooma diesel (Canberra)both have very high reputations to hold up. I know of people who have used them and they do good work but as they are larger than a one mane show and have equipement to do the job well and have the reputation then they do charge!

How do you know its the piston that is scored and as for price a minimum will be around $1000, I know I have had two done and they did not have that sort of wear or damage to start with. Watch the FFA and caustic left in the bio, washing is best!

I am interested to know what 4 years of B100 has done but not that interested to pay at least $5-700 to know!

    regards

Berrima diesel had an ad in a 4x4 mag for biodiesel tuning not to long ago ph 48771256.Turbo Glide @ Wollongong Ph42847881. Also West end Diesel @ Wetherial Park on 97572100. These all have good reports.Berrima being the most expensive i bet, but they do a good job and i have used them years ago for an injector service and the patrol ran like a dream.

Having made several phone calls, I'm sending it off to Diesel Australia in Qld. They will probably be both cheapest and fastest for a specialised mob that know what they're doing and have experience with bio.

The good news for me is that the damage that the pump suffered (scoring/seizure of timing piston) is fairly common, and I needn't interpret it as a sign of poor fuel. In any case, the rebuild will include an upgrade to a later model design - the Denso pumps experienced several changes with later models apparently.

I have had mine rebuilt at Cooma Diesel they are expensive and extremely Specialised with Toyota/Denso Diesel Fuel systems. I think that they are the only registered Denso pump rebuilders in Australia. Something along those lines. Anyway I don't really care as I still have approx 100,000km's till next fuel system tune.

However the last time I spoke to them (approx 12mths ago) they spewed when I mentioned Biodiesel. Did not want to know anything about it "It is Bad stuff which kills Diesel engines and fuel systems" That was pretty much what they said. No warranty zip..... did not even want to discuss it with me as they had made up their mind.... they were rather rude, I didn't take it to heart I just thought that it showed their ignorance.
I may just give them another call soon to see if they have changed their tune yet, but until they do I don't dare mention Bio in their company again....

Hmm interesting hdj80, last I heard was that cooma diesel had set aside one of their IP tunning benches to totally bio.

Hmm wonder if that was done last year as it was late last year I had heard that. I would hope that info was correct but have not had the pleasure of using their services yet but with the bus anything is possible.

They seem to have moderated somewhat, but I got the old "yeah mate - Denso sdeals are all Viton now and we know because we're licensed Denso dealers etc etc." (I rung Denso in Melbourne and they are NOT Viton). But he did say that if I supplied them with Viton seals they'd do it.

But it only cost $12 to post my pump to Qld so they got the nod..

Thats odd, because when I rang them a couple of weeks ago I got the same response as HDJ80 and Cooma Diesel. "Dont use it it'll wreck your fuel system... there's nobody to police that bio conforms to any spec.... we see the results of using biodiesel in IP's".... etc, etc. They weren't rude but passed me onto the another mechanic in Wollongong.
