    Best solvent for WVO?

I have a number of 20 litre containers which have previously held vegetable oil (rice bran).

What I want to do is to clean them out thoroughly.

What should I be using for the best result?

I have variously tried diesel, metho and detergent.

(I don't have any bio, so you can scratch that from the list)

I haven't tried it but I'm guessing degreaser or petrol.

That's what I use for spills anyway.

    A good detergent? ??

    Hi gilligan,

I'm surrounded by the white rice bran drums also.

After they are empty I put them in the sun upside down to drain out the dregs.

I fill one drum that's ready to be washed with hot water and a good drop of liquid cloths washing detergent/bleach.

After a good shake I pour it into the next drum and so on. I do about 10 drums at a time.

I then make up a fresh batch of hot water and detergent and do the same ten drums again.

I leave the clean drums with lids off upside down in the sun for a few days to dry before stacking them away with lids on ready for my next batch of wvo fuel. I store my wvo that's ready to put into the troopy in these. drums.

If you want to save using the KOH or NaOH then just use the glycerine / byproduct from making Bio, it cuts it well, just wipe inside the drum leave it in the sun and wash and wipe away later, water will remove all of the contaminants from the drum, oil, dried WVO and byproduct.

Minimilisation of the strong KOH or NaOH by using the bio byproduct will not hurt the grass. Too much KOH or NaOH kills things.
I agree nothing cleans the concrete like some KOH flakes as Dave previously advised, its brilliant but heavy on the soil.

    Hi everyone,

I only use caustic for cleaning drains concrete it does a good job.

I never add it to hot water as the fumes are toxic and burn eyes, skin and lungs. I don't use it as a general cleaner anymore because I've seen too many injuries caused by the stuff over the years.

I use just plain old detergent that is biodegradable it does the job and the waste water goes on the garden.

    God bless froggo.

i haveused a concoction of borax mixed with washing powder in a hot water solution that worked well. the gylcerine byproduct of bio is gold too.
