Kleenco also sell their empty 200L plastic barrels for around $10 each I think.

Plastic drums of all sizes can usually be found at the Sunday markets at Leppington Bazaar, ranging from $3 to $20 depending on size & condition.

Hope this helps anyone starting out. I know it took me a bit of legwork to get going.

Geewizztoo you said that KOH was around $60 a bag of 25kgs. Are you sure that wasn't for NaOH. NaOH is around $62 and KOH is around $30 for 25Kgs bags up the sunshine coast.

          Hi Joe,

I wish it was $30/25Kgs for KOH here. I rang around chemical suppliers but they wouldn't sell direct to me and gave me a couple of leads to the retail companies they supply. The best price I found was $60/25Kgs.

              Re: Biodiesel Supplies

i just started with some small scale tests and bought the caustic soda at the local woolworths - mechanix caustic soda, 500g cost $5.00. this of course is very expensive, but a good size for beginners and some preliminary checks.
by the way: i was surprised how hard it is to dissolve the NaOH in methanol! it took 10 minutes of vigorous shaking @ roomtemperature.

                Methanol - small quantities

I've just bought some caustic soda too, for some test batches using the "Dr Pepper" method.

My question is: where can you get small quantities of methanol easily in Oz? Is there an antifreeze product that I could get from Repco or somewhere (as recommended on the Dr Pepper thread? Or do I have to go to specialist chemical suppliers/model shops?

I only need a couple of litres initially.

                  Re: Biodiesel Supplies

                  Hey guys,

This is my first question on this sight but I am not new to the process. I was wondering if anyone could help me find a piece of equipment? I am looking for a holding tank for sulphuric acid. It needs to hold about 20L and must be sealed. I also need to see the level through the tank.

If anyone can point me to a company or an individual that I could contact it would be greatly appreciated. It does not matter where they are.

                  Thanks, Heavy bio

Kleenco today quoted their price for 25Kg bags of KOH @$75.00. - plenty in stock.

I know this will produce a lot of BD but isn't $3 per kilo this a bit high?

Somebody should repackage this in 5Kg lots - and resell.

                        G,

I bought a bag of KOH from Kleenco for $75, and would think that that would be pricey if it weren't for two things:

1- the WVO I'm using is excellent quality, and titrates extremely low (less than 1 + base)

2- I have no idea where, besides Kleenco, I'd buy the KOH.

                        Justin

Please find a cheaper source then post the details.

                            Other ideas:
                            1. I think there would be a market for 60 litre oil drums fitted with cone-bottoms and a 1" outlet. Either the complete tank or just the cone bottoms which would be easier to ship.

The converted drums could be sold in the nude, or predrilled for inlets, thermometers, heaters etc.

                            2. There is also a market for pump assemblies. ie an appropriate pump with the necessary ball valves, connectors, nipples etc.

                              Re: Biodiesel Supplies

I have heard reference to a small operation in fremantle that produces a "production" plant but cant seem to locate details about the company. Apparently they have displayed at various rural events, and according to a friend who could not recall the company name today, supply all the required products to produce biodiesel.

Anyone know of the company, as if what Evan indicated is true, biodiesel from SVO for about $0.40 is very attractive. Not sure of the plant cost at this stage.

                              Anyone know any other detail?

                              Cheers

Could it be Bioworks? they are based in WA and their Biomaster processor is supposed to be pretty good. About $3000 I think
