  • QB 80 Seal Replacement

    Hi all

Has anyone had to replace the mechanical seal in their QB 80 style pump?
If so where did you get the seal from? I have had a quote of $35 for a seal only paid $70 for the pump to start with, and the seal lasted 3-4 months only.
I have my processor running on a timer so when it stops it leaks out at a fair rate from the pump housing where the motor shaft goes in it .

I think you're talking about the ceramic/rubber/spring seal at the back of the pump housing where the shaft goes through.

I got one for my QB70 for about $10 from a bearing specialist on the North Shore. Can't remember the name. I tried in a pump place first but they didn't have the right size - the QBs are a non-standard size. The one I got wasn't a perfect fit but it was pretty close, and has been leak free (permanently submerged in WVO or biodiesel) for over a year.

Sorry I can't be more help than that but this was ages ago. You'll just have to take your old one around a few industrial estates and you'll find one eventually.

I also bought a Viton O ring at the same time to replace the large rubber one.

There are some photos on this post here but unfortunately there seems to be a problem with images on the forum at the moment. I've tried to contact Robert about it but he's not been around much lately.

Thanks for the info Pangit, I have put the seal back in but with a viton O ring into it and with a 20 min run today and not a drop was spilt,so i only have to run a full batch, heat and all to test it. I will update when i have tested it.

      Cheers Daniel
