  • National Fuelwatch Scheme

Gday,Today our PM Kevin Rudd announces a national fuelwatch scheme to put pressure onto petrol retailers across Australia.Am i being cynical when i see it as a way of the govt. trying to look as though they are addressing the high petrol prices.Meanwhile in the real world peak oil is rocking along but we wont mention that in case it scares the market. Will we have to post how much it costs to run our vehicles on SVO or bio? Re: National Fuelwatch Scheme

Typical for Canberra - a 'fuel watch', how about 'fuel production'? That would make a lot more sense. Sounds like another bureacracy of distraction that is going to suck time, effort and money from the masses under the pretense of 'doing something'.

I wonder if they are going to issue badges to the really clueless, perhaps have promotions to Senior Watcher for your area, etc. Imagine the enlistment commercials, "you too can be an important cog in the machinery to wind back the fuel prices"

The concept is kind of funny though, I have a picture in my mind of people standing around a toilet bowl watching the fuel disappear. "Look, look there goes some more, oohhhh!

I know I didn't vote for the Liberals, but I've already forgotten which f--kwit I did vote for. I disclaim any responsibility for this latest insult from Canberra.

      Terry,
If they are planning on implementing the same scheme in WA, the retailers have to (compulsory) advise the agency of the price they will be selling at for the whole of the next day.

Anyone can report a retailer for changing prices or not displaying the pump price in a certain sized lettering.
By advertising the fuel prices in a locality, some retailers can gain better turnover by using lower margins reliably. Consumers choose which or the prices they wish to pay.

While this does stop the "3 price changes in a day" scenario, it does nothing to control the retail price overall, as this is based on the wholesale price plus retailer margin.

In that respect it is purely "Window Dressing".

To be quite frank i really couldn't care less about the scheme as long as it shuts that NRMA twit Alan Evans up for another day. He is soooo uneducated about petroleum yet he has an opinion on it all.
        Can't really hurt i guess.
