  • Severe disruption to Navigation on this site

    Members and Visitors,
The forum seems to have some severe issues with users navigation around the site tonight.
If everyone else has the same problems, the site will be virtually unusable, except for posting in existing threads.

I can use the PM function by clicking on user's name on their posts
I cannot navigate to any part of the site from the index page.
I can go to posts in the [New Posts] search, reply to them and edit my posts,
I cannot navigate using the forum links at the top of the thread (eg Bio Fuels Forums > General Discussion > Off Topic Area)
I can perform some Moderator functions which I have tried - (eg posting this message by copying one from another thread)
This problem will need to be investigated by our maintenance team (Robert) and hopefully repaired soon.

    Regards,
    Tony

Hi Tony and Admin team, I have had the exact problem since yesterday. I cannot navigate from the front forum page. only by clicking on a PM message.
So the site is next to useless at the moment.
Will try again in a day or too
        regards

Yes, I couldn't get on at all last night or this morning using Opera. Tried Firefox and IE this morning and got on to biofuels.com but couldn't enter any sub-forums. Finally got in to this thread but can't get into anything not shown on the main page.

Re: Severe disruption to Navigation on this site

Sorry boys and girls. I saw the problem yesterday, but I'm travelling on business at the moment and have extremely limited time.
I've done a quick(ish) band-aid and it seems to have worked a little.
There is now some corruption that I will need to clean out, but I can only do this later (maybe on the weekend if I can find the time).
At present, the site should (hopefully) work within itself, but old links in from other sites will not work.
I ask myself why I bother at times like this...
                    Robert.

And, Robert, we feel that way about you also.
I tried to quantify the fault last night. I only managed to create this thread by using the Moderator "copy post" tool to create this post as I couldn't navigate to "This Forum" otherwise.

Thanks for your prompt action to restore service.

Re: Severe disruption to Navigation on this site

Well, I got home and I've re-run a bunch of upgrade and maintenance procedures in here and so far it looks like it has worked. It should be fully repaired this time, so not just navigation, but external links as well. I've not yet fully tested it, but initial results look good enough for now. I guess you people will tell me if anything serious is wrong with the forum.
(The moral of the story is don't attempt to do minor maintenance work from a dodgy Chinese connection, where even the slightest hiccup can cause major dramas).
