Re: Anyone using injector line heaters?
I've got homemade heaters using nichrome wire with ceramic beads as insulators on my 3.0litre Hiace. The following sequence of events may be of interest to readers.
I run a thermocouple type of temperature guage clipped to #1 injector line.
I run 2 fused circuits off a single relay, each drawing 4amps. This current is shared between 2 adjacent injector lines. Cylinder 1 & 2 are common as is 3 & 4.
2amps each line, making a total of 8 amps draw.
Some time after installation the circuit for 1 & 2 shorted out due to the insulator on the plastic strip connector melting through and blowing the fuse.
The guage was 20C lower on average while I puzzled over the temp loss. Once I discovered and rectified the short, the temp regained the 20C.
I have normal operating readings of around 80 - 90C.

Out of interest, is anyone aware of any tests by any universities or labs on these heaters? There are loads of tests published about running diesel engines on veg oil, anyone know of any similar type tests on line heaters that have been done?
